SummaryThis project aims to examine further previous research where a theoretical framework of mentoring styles has been developed. The development of this framework identified a need to respond to the diverse mentoring experiences of students teachers. By extending and enhancing the existing provision for the professional development of school based mentors, I would like to work towards achieving a level of consistency in the basic mentoring process encouraging positive and effective mentoring experiences. Currently attendance at off-site courses is poor and the logical conclusion is to take the professional development to the work place, reaching a wider audience, and allowing for work based learning where it is considered learning will be more effective as cognitive distance between the university and the work place is reduced (Evans, Hodkinson, Rainbird and Unwin 2006). |
