Summary

This qualitative project will consider students' and tutors' experiences of different assessment approaches. The project will focus on award-bearing CPD modules that highlight the importance of work-based learning and that attempt to reflect this in the assessment practices and frameworks.

It will examine if explicit links are being made on the modules between pedagogy, assessment and work-based learning and will identify the key challenges facing students in completing the assessment tasks. The data will be analyzed to contribute to the work of the Innovations in Assessment Working Party and the Widening Participation sub-Committee to consider how different forms of assessment might support or impede inclusive and participatory academic and pedagogical practices (Burke and Hermerschmidt, 2005; Lillis, 2001).
