Professional Lifelong Learning: Critical Perspectives Print
Thursday, 14 February 2008

24th June 2008 10.00 - 4.30 pm

At the University of Leeds

This is the third one-day conference on professional learning and it will challenge taken-for-granted assumptions about the dominant CPD paradigm. Papers will draw on research, theory and critical analysis to consider these issues across professions. The conference seeks to advance both the critical analysis and theoretical understanding of professional lifelong learning. Many professions have set up continuing professional development (CPD) frameworks and recording systems, often as a condition of maintaining registration, and sometimes linked to revalidation. But what evidence is there that such systems promote professional learning? And how might such systems ‘measure’ learning in order that a judgement might be taken about individuals’ professional development?

Participants will come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds such as education, medicine, health and social care, law, engineering and management.  The conference will bring together academics and practitioners concerned with the training and development of professionals.
