How Professionals Learn through Work Professor

Until we understand how professionals actually learn as they go about their everyday work we cannot fully comprehend what we need to do to help students for the professional environments they will work in. This is a question that has underlain the work I have undertaken while I have been working with the Surrey Centre for Excellence in Professional Training and Education (SCEPTrE). In this Chapter I will try to draw together insights I have gained through two decades of research into how professionals learn through work as a precursor to addressing the challenge of how we might improve the way in which we support students on their professional work placements. I will be talking about the main ideas in this Chapter in a series of podcasts which can be accessed below.
