Presenters:
In March 2009, the Academy of Medical Educators was commissioned by
the UK Departments of Health to help define training requirements for
educational supervisors in secondary care, and to explore options for
their future accreditation and performance review. The first stage of
the project involved scoping the problem, identifying current practice
and reviewing the literature on the impact of training. This work was
then used by policymakers to inform the direction of a subsequent stage
of the project. This work was carried by Tim Swanwick (Academy of
Medical Education & London Deanery) and a team from the Social
Science Research Unit at the Institute of Education led by Mark Newman
and Katrina Hargreaves. This seminar will briefly outline the research
approaches used in the project and the key findings as an illustration
of one approach to undertaking research to inform policy. Participants
will then be invited to discuss in the limitations of the approach used
and the general issues about the way in which research can be used to
inform policy in clinical education. To book a place please email Manos ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) |
