Summary

The NQT year is very demanding for teachers. The importance of work-‐based professional development (PD) at this critical stage is recognised by Government. This is currently being phased in nationally via a new work-‐based qualification the Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL).

This research included face-to-face (f2f) interviews during June, July and August 2009 with 10 teachers. These teachers, although now at various early stages of teaching career (between 2 and 7 years), all participated in e-learning as part of accredited PD by undertaking the Master of Teaching (MTeach) when they were NQTs. The aim was to identify how, why and in what ways did their participation in this PD facilitated by e-learning support their work based learning in their NQT year.
